What You Will Learn
Want your Arduino to control audio, video, generative 3D visuals, or even Ableton Live? Combine Arduino with Max 8, a powerful visual programming environment opens up many possibilities for interactive installation, generative art, multimedia performance, and more! In this full day workshop you will learn very basic electronics, introductory Arduino skills, and how to use sensors and inputs to control audio and video in Max 8!
I Know a Bit of Max, what's this Arduino thing?
Arduino is a microcontroller that allows you to control electronic components and input data from sensors, buttons, switches, and output data to things like lights, motors and more! It's also software that allows you to change the code on the board. In our workshop, we will minimize Arduino coding and use it with Max.
This workshop assumes you know very basic Max 8 and little to nothing about Arduino. Missed our Intro to Max 8 workshop and want to get up to speed? Contact us when you register and we'll see what we can do! Basic experience with electronics is recommended but not mandatory. Don't have an Arduino or any electronics? Contact us and we'll have a simple starter kit with an Arduino Uno, USB cable, breadboard, switches, potentiometers, resistors, and a sensor for $46.00!
What Do I Need For This Workshop?
Please bring the hardware listed below and have the software installed before the workshop! Unfortunately, we cannot supply computers at this time. Ensure you download Max 8 from the cycling74 website. You can use a free 30 day trial for the workshop if you do not have a license Download the software here.
- Laptop (PC or Mac) with Max 8 installed
- Arduino Development Board (preferably an Uno, but if you have another model, let us know!)
- Electronics kit containing at least a breadboard, resistors, led's, potentiometers, and switches
Workshop Attendance: In the case of the workshop not meeting a minimum amount of attendees, fees will be fully refunded. Limited spaces available, so book soon!
